Originally from the UK, Nick Allen has been a Hong Kong resident since 1983. Prior to his retirement in 2007 he was a partner for 17 years with the international accounting firm, PricewaterhouseCoopers where he was an audit partner and partner-in-charge of the PwC Hong Kong and China Assurance Practice (Audit) comprising 3,000 staff and partners in 10 offices. He was also a member of the Management Board of PwC Hong Kong and China and a member of the PwC Global Audit Policy Board. He served as a Member of the Securities & Futures Appeal Panel, a Member of the Takeovers & Merger Panel and a Member of various committees of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He currently serves as an independant non-executive director of CLP Holdings Ltd, Lenovo Group Ltd., and Hysan Development Co. Ltd. Nick is a board member of Vision 2047 Foundation.

Peter Barrett

 

Peter Barrett has lived in Hong Kong since 1976. Originally a Board member of Hutchison Whampoa and Hong Telephone, he ran his own consulting businesses in Hong Kong and Singapore -Organisation Develoment Ltd - advising family firms on professionalisation and strategy. Having sold this business in 2006,he has since devoted most of his time chairing the Leprosy Project, helping people with Leprosy in Szechuan Province, where a small staff help rehabilitate around 400 Lepers in 9 remote villages.

Thaddeus Beczak

 

Tad Beczak is the Vice Chairman of China Renaissance Securities (HK) Limited and Vice Chairman of China Renaissance Holdings Limited, a China focused, privately owned, boutique merchant bank. He is also a member of the International Advisory Committee of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. He also serves as the non-executive Chairman of ACR Capital Holdings, a pan-Asian reinsurance group, and the non-executive Chairman of Artisan Du Luxe Holding Limited (John Hardy jewelery). He then established an environmental engineering company specializing in waste water treatment and energy efficiency. Margaret Brooke

Michael Blake

 

Michael Blake is General Manager, Asia, of Coutts & Co. Ltd. He is chair of their Asia Management Committee and oversees all Coutts functions in the region, acting as their senior regional representative with regulators and government authorities. Mike graduated from Oxford University where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He studied Mandarin in Beijing whilst serving with the British Diplomatic Service. Rachel Cartland

 

Rachel Cartland graduated from Oxford in 1972 and joined the Hong Kong Civil Service where she worked until her retirement from service in early 2006. During her time with Government she served in a variety of senior posts and has wide experience of policy formulation and the workings of the civil service. Amongst other responsibilities she was Deputy Secretary for Recreation and Culture and Assistant Director of Social Welfare (Social Security) with responsibility of an annual budget of HK$25 billion and 2000 staff. In this role she spearheaded the thinking that led to the implementation of "Support for Self-reliance" for employable social security recipients which supported a 'welfare to work' approach. Rachel currently undertakes public sector consulting. She serves on HKU's SPACE Academic Committee for the Higher Diploma in Social Security, is a member of the Board of Governors of The Womens' Foundation and the China Oxford Scholarship Fund as well as serving as a Trustee of the Outward Bound School of Hong Kong.

Michael Cartland

 

Michael Cartland was Secretary for Financial Services in the early 1990s until he was required to retire in the run up to the Handover. Prior to this, Michael spent the eighties dealing with Hong Kong trade policy and became Hong Kong's first Permanent Representative to the GATT when Hong Kong became a full member in its own right in 1986. He participated in that capacity in the launching of the Uruguay Round and went on to chair the Negotiating Group on Subsidies and Countervail during the Round. Following this he helped the then Director General, Peter Sutherland, to bring the negotiations to a conclusion in the areas of Anti-Dumping, Safeguards, Intellectual Property, Government Procurement, as well as Subsidies and Countervail. He also made a substantial contribution to GATT and WTO Dispute Settlement by chairing the panels in no less than eighteen cases over the twenty-two years to 2007. He now works with his wife Rachel on public sector consulting.

Mark Clifford

 

Mark Clifford is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong-based Asia Business Council. He is a co-author of Through the Eyes of Tiger Cubs: Views of Asia’s Next Generation (2011) and the Council’s book on green buildings, Building Energy Efficiency: Why Green Buildings Are Key to Asia’s Future (2007), among five books he has written on Asia. Clifford previously was Editor-in-Chief of the South China Morning Post; prior to that he was Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Standard. He was the Hong Kong-based Asia Regional Editor for Business Week, with overall responsibility for the magazine’s bureaus from Bombay to Tokyo. Clifford came to Asia in 1987 as a Seoul, Korea-based correspondent with the Far Eastern Economic Review. He has lived in Hong Kong since 1992.

Patrick Cheung
 

Patrick Cheung is Chairman of QED Global Limited, a Hong Kong-based investment advisory company established in April, 2000. He is also Vice Chairman of Rainbow Land Holdings Limited, a Hong Kong based private company engaged in property development activities in China. Prior to founding his own firm, Mr. Cheung was CEO of the Lazard Asia Fund and was responsible for the Lazard Group’s principal investment activities in Asia. In that capacity, he served on the board of a number of listed companies in Asia including Sing Tao Holdings, of which he was Chairman. Until Novemeber 2013 George Ding was CEO of HuaAn Asset Management Hong Kong Ltd. and a Senior Managing Director of HuaAn Fund Management Company, a Shanghai-based investment management firm. He first came to Hong Kong in 1994 and has now permanently settled here with his family. Prior to joining HuaAn, he served as a Director at Colonial First Global Asset Management and a Principal at Barclays Global Investors in Hong Kong. Before he returned to Asia, he spent 11 years in New York City, working as an investment specialist with New York City Retirement System. Greg De'eb

 

Greg served as a Career Diplomat from 1988 to 2002 in a variety of locations including Taipei, Beijing and Hong Kong/Macau where he ultimately held the position of Head of Mission.  He then left the foreign service and located permanently to Hong Kong where he joined the Crown Worldwide Group to start, develop and oversee Crown Wine Cellars Ltd which is located in a UNESCO recognised military facility in Shouson Hill.  He manages CWC to this day.  Gregory is involved in all aspects of the Hong Kong wine industry, as well as undertaking numerous charity, heritage preservation, community and education related projects.  He serves on a number of public and private panels and is a professional member of the Hong Kong Institute of Conservation Architects.  Greg is married to a practitioner of Chinese medicine, and he has 3 Hong Kong born children.

Professor Michael DeGolyer

 

Michael De Golyer has been resident in Hong Kong since 1988. Since 1993 he has been the Director of the Hong Kong Transition Project and has given over 4,000 briefings to a wide range of local and international people from the media, business, consular corps, academia and local Government departments. He was a contributor to the Economist Intelligence Unit quarterly Country Reports on Hong Kong for 10 years (1998-2008) and over the span of his career has conducted over 100 surveys, written over 250 research papers, reports, academic articles and book chapters and over 400 newspaper columns. After graduating from Queen’s College, Cambridge in 1974, Robert Footman joined the Hong Kong Government as an administrative officer. Tim Huxley is a British national who originally moved to Hong Kong in 1989. Dr Mark Michelson


  Mark Michelson is Chairman of the Asia CEO Forum in Hong Kong for IMA Asia, which helps leaders of multinational companies in Asia Pacific to monitor and assess political, economic and commercial developments across the region, and to integrate key insights into their operational and strategic business plans. Dr. Michelson also is Senior Counselor and Partner with APCO Worldwide, which provides public affairs and strategic communications services in Asia-Pacific and globally.

From 2004 to 2008, Dr Michelson was Associate Director-General for Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong - the investment promotion department of the Hong Kong Government. He has spent over 30 years in the Asia/ Pacific region, mainly living in Hong Kong but also in Japan. He is an adjunct associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong -- and a member of the Hong Kong-America Center board and the Fulbright Advisory Committee. Kenneth G. Morrison


 

Kenneth G. Morrison, Chairman Greater China of Mazars CPA Limited, was born in Hong Kong and has lived here for over 30 years. He is extensively involved with a number of community service organizations, including the Sports Development Board, the Eric Liddell Foundation, the Hong Kong Society for the Blind, and the Union Church of Hong Kong. From 1999 -2009 he was a member of the Inland Revenue Review Board. Mr. Morrison is a founding member and currently serves as Chairman of Vision 2047.

Sarah Monks

  Sarah Monks, a veteran of media and communications in Hong Kong, arrived from Australia in 1978 to work as a journalist "for a couple of years" - and stayed. She was a senior news executive with the South China Morning Post, Hong Kong's leading English-language daily, before joining the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the city's trade promotion organisation, with postings to London and New York. In Hong Kong, she headed the Council's global corporate communications team for nearly 15 years. After researching and writing Toy Town, a commissioned history of Hong Kong’s toy industry, she became communications director and editor at the Fung Global Institute, a Hong Kong-based economics think-tank established in 2011. She is presently special communications advisor to the Fung Group.

Sebastian Man

  Sebastian Man is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chung Mei International Holdings Limited. Chung Mei is a manufacturer of domestic kitchen electrics and air treatment products . He was born and raised in Hong Kong.

Sebastian was a director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. He is a Vice President of the Hong Kong Electrical Appliances Manufacturers Association. He is also a council member of The Better Hong Kong Foundation. He was the Co-President of Harvard Business School Association of Hong Kong from 2006 to 2008 and is now a director of the Association. He is on the Board of Trustees of Cate School, USA. Since 1999, Sebastian has been appointed as a board member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference Shenzhen-Baoan Committee. Sebastian received his BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering at MIT and his MBA at Harvard Business School.

Tony Miller SBS, OBE

  Tony is Chairman of the Hong Kong Business Aviation Centre and a Non-executive Director of Transport International Holdings Ltd., RoadShow Holdings Ltd., SmarTone Telecommunications Holdings Ltd. and SUNeVision Holdings Ltd. He retired from the government of the Hong Kong SAR in 2007, after a career spanning 35 years, having served as Permanent Representative to the WTO in Geneva and Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and, prior to that, as the Director of the Housing, Trade and Marine Departments. Tony has lived in Hong Kong since 1972.

Richard Margolis

  Richard Margolis is a former diplomat, investment banker and businessman with more than 30 years’ experience in Greater China.

His diplomatic career saw him serve in the FCO, London and in Beijing, Paris and Hong Kong, where he was part of the team which negotiated the agreement on Hong Kong’s future.

He left the Diplomatic Service in 1986 to pursue a private sector career in Hong Kong. He was Managing Director, Corporate Finance at Smith New Court Far East from 1988 to 1995. Following the acquisition of Smith New Court by Merrill Lynch in 1995, Richard worked in various capacities for Merrill Lynch, lately as head of strategy and planning for Asia Pacific. He retired from Merrill Lynch in December 2001 and became an independent consultant, serving on the boards of two Hong Kong listed companies. He was a member of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Listing Committee for seven years, and of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission Advisory Committee for four years.

Richard joined Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, in 2003, and was responsible for their business in Greater China and Korea. Under his leadership, the company’s revenues in Greater China increased tenfold in 8 years. He retired from Rolls-Royce at the end of 2011.

Richard is a Director of Hakluyt & Company Singapore Pte Ltd, the Asian arm of Hakluyt & Company, an international business advisory firm; and an adviser to Milestone Capital, a private equity fund.

Richard was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2011 New Year’s Honours list for services to British business in China.

He speaks fluent French and Mandarin Chinese.

Ben Miller

 

Ben Miller has been living, working, studying, and traveling in Asia for over 20 years.  He is currently a Managing Director at Serica Partners Ltd, an alternative asset management firm founded in Hong Kong. Previously, Miller opened and managed the Asia office for a US multi-billion-dollar fund manager.  In the lead up to the handover of sovereignty of Hong Kong in 1997, he served as a legal assistant to Martin Lee, QC, who was chairman of Hong Kong's largest prodemocracy
political party at the time.  Miller holds AB and JD degrees with honors from Harvard University and was awarded a Henry Luce Fellowship in Taiwan.

 

     

Elaine Pickering

 

Elaine Pickering serves as Executive Director of Vision 2047 Foundation. Arriving in Hong Kong in the late 1980s she managed the China operations of the largest European operator of tours to China. Following the closure of operations after the Tiananmen Square events in 1989, she worked within the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group as manager of key accounts, before setting up the first in-house corporate travel agency in Hong Kong, embedded in the Dow Chemical Company. With former Dow colleagues she helped establish a consultancy specialising in purchasing and materials management, working with several government departments and large corporate organisations throughout the 1990s. She has worked with special interest groups for the past fifteen years supporting organisations including The Hong Kong Forum, British Council, City Chamber Orchestra, Legatum Institute, Fung Global Institute, Urban Land Institute and Harvard Business School Association. She also supports corporate companies with events for VIPs. Elaine gained her M.Ed. from the University of Newcastle, UK, and is active in participating in and organising group counseling workshops in Taiwan, Hong Kong and China.

David Teng Pong

 

Born in Hong Kong, David Teng Pong is the Managing Director of Shiu Wing Steel Ltd. He is a chartered engineer, and a fellow of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Institution of Electrical Engineers. Mr. Pong is the inventor of five processes for the production of steel which have been patented by the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office, the European Patents Office and all Asian countries.

Godfrey Scotchbrook

Jal Soli Shroff

Henry Steiner

 

Henry Steiner, Doctor, honoris causa, Hong Kong Baptist University; Honorary professor, Hong Kong Polytechnic University. A resident of Hong Kong since 1961,

Markus Shaw

  Markus Shaw is a lifelong citizen of Hong Kong. Following a history degree
from Cambridge University, he spent six years as a corporate lawyer with the City
law firm Linklaters in London, Singapore and Hong Kong before joining the family
business in 1992. He is a Managing Director of his family’s investment office, and
has wide experience in the investment management world including management
involvement in many portfolio companies, principally in the fields of finance, real
estate and media and entertainment.

Mr. Shaw is active in the not-for-profit and philanthropic fields. He has cofounded
NGOs in the fields of better urban planning (“Designing Hong Kong”) and
air pollution (“Clean Air Network”), and also sits on the boards of the Keswick
Foundation Committed to nature conservation,
he is a member of WWF International’s Board of Trustees and its Treasurer, as well
as Trustee (and former Chairman) of WWF-Hong Kong. He was also a member of the
Hong Kong Government’s Advisory Council on the Environment from 2004 to 2008.
He is a frequent speaker and newspaper columnist on conservation, the environment,
urban planning and other policy issues.

Married with three children, he maintains a keen interest in public policy,
literature, history, music, photography and the great outdoors.

Martin Tang

 

Martin Tang is a private investor. He retired as Chairman, Asia of executive search consultants Spencer Stuart & Associates in 2008, after over 16 years with the firm. He started his career at Bank of America in San Francisco and went on to textile manufacturing and venture capital in Hong Kong.
Martin received the Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and the Master of Science degree in Management from MIT. He is a Presidential Councillor and trustee emeritus of Cornell and a member of the MIT Corporation. In 2013, he was appointed Vice Chairman of Council of HKUST. He is an independent non-executive director of three public companies, a trustee of WWFHK and a governor of Junior Achievement Hong Kong.

Camille Tang is President, ConvenientPower Limited, a leader in wireless power technology and co-founder of the world's first international wireless power standard "Qi". Raised in Hong Kong, she served on the Hong Kong GovernmentCentral Policy Unit, Social Welfare Lotteries Fund Advisory Committee. Terkild J. Terkildsen

 

Director of Royal Copenhagen (HK) Ltd. — now Georg Jensen (China) Ltd. — Terkild J. Terkildsen has been a Hong Kong resident since 1971. In 1975, he started his own business, the franchise operations for IKEA of Sweden, in Hong Kong and in Singapore, and took over as Managing Director and CEO in early 1978. Since then, he has served as director and consultant to many local and Danish companies, and is a consultant to ID Furniture Franchising A/S, Denmark, and in charge of their Far East Regional Office. James E. Thompson

 

Founder and Chairman of Crown Worldwide Group, Jim Thompson has lived in the Far East since 1963 when he moved to Japan. He started the company two years later. He moved to Hong Kong in 1978. The Crown Worldwide Group, headquartered in Hong Kong, offers global mobility services, international and domestic relocations, records management, logistics, wine storage and transportation of fine arts in over 250 locations worldwide. C.K. Tsang J.P was born and raised in Hong Kong. Having gone through the traditional education system, he graduated as an engineer from HKU. He worked in the E&M sector of the construction industry and is now the Managing Director of a group of engineering companies, i.e. Ryoden Engineering Co. Ltd. He has an interest in observing politics and is active in the alumni of his university and secondary school. He is an active Rotarian and also spends a good deal of time representing the interests of the E&M industry.

Paul Woodward

 

Paul Woodward has been in Hong Kong since 1985. He is currently running, UFI, the international association for the exhibition industry which is headquartered in Paris and travels extensively to the 85 countries where that organisation has members. He spends as much time in Hong Kong as possible where he has a business media and events consulting business which he founded in 2000. He is a former Governor of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and has been involved in many other community activities.
